Quantum science and technology, which surpasses the limits of conventional measurement technology by controlling the behavior of individual quantum particles such as electrons and photons, as well as the correlations between multiple quantum particles (quantum entanglement), is attracting attention. The United Nations has declared 2025 as the "International Year of Quantum Science and Technology."This summer, during this commemorative year, a research group led by Professor Shigeki Takeuchi of the Graduate School of Engineering at Kyoto University will present an exhibition that allows visitors to experience the mysterious world of "quantum entanglement" using three devices that actually utilize entangled photon pairs. This is believed to be the first such exhibition open to the public in Japan. Additionally, with the cooperation of Shimadzu Corporation and santec Holdings Co., Ltd., the exhibition will introduce "photonic quantum sensing" technology utilizing quantum-entangled light, which surpasses the limits of conventional technology, and its potential societal impacts. The character “Mitsuko,” created specifically for this exhibition, will guide visitors through the display.
